But I don't see anything cynical in talking about gun control. Realistically, it's *only* at times like this that anyone will listen.<br /><br />I agree, too, that it's easier to talk about gun control than try and answer what you call "far more unanswerable questions." And I agree, too, that there is always a risk of wanting to "cling to the illusion that we're Doing Something" (e.g., the pantomime otherwise known as TSA). But I think pushing for stricter gun control has potentially real benefits. I think any sane reading of the gun ownership/homicide data comes as close to proving this as is possible to prove anything.<br /><br />I would, finally, agree that we can't *explain* these kinds of horror. Not psychologically, not theologically. They just are.<br /><br />On a (comparatively) light note, *thank you* for your warnings about the movie War Horse. We were very close to taking our (extremely sensitive) 9-year-old daughter to it, on account of her having survived the book. It would have done her in.
